Cacti is a utility build around RRDTool for graphing data about systems.  It's primarily used to show graphs of network activity, but it can be used to graph any data fed to it.  Similar to Nagios, we've written many plugins and tools for Cacti to help us get the most information about our clients' environments.  We rely on Cacti's data for capacity planning and trends analysis.  Its historical data allows us to map patterns or quickly see aberrant behavior in an clear, visual way.
